Within sci-fi, the cinematography isn’t necessarily distinct
or out of the blue, the only cinematography that could be noticeably distinct
is extreme long shots that will help show the scene. This is due to how the
settings of the sci-fi films are often impressive and expansive so they have to
showcase the settings as much as possible to both set the scene perfectly and
get the audience to see the world they’re creating as best as possible. This is
very apparent in the Star Wars films where they have an establishing shot for
almost any new location. Other cinematography really depends on the subgenre of the film. Action films like Star Wars will have very fast paced scenes to reflect fighting while thriller films like Apollo 18 will have long drawn out sequences to build suspense.
