Evaluation - Question 1

'In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?'

Our film is based around the three main characters, Kian, Jarrod and Danni who all get caught up in trouble with Frank, a character who's threatening to shoot them all within the first three minutes. We did this because we wanted to build suspense and curiosity for the rest of the film, leaving the audience with questions such as; who is frank and why is he wanting to shoot them? This draws the audience in, with then wanting to know what's happened. Our film follows a linear narrative and shows all our scenes in chronological order as we wanted our film to play out like a story but we do break the narrative at some points as we feature flash back to previous events, we also wanted it to be a restrictive narrative where the audience only knows as much as the character because as the film and the characters knowledge develops so does the audiences knowledge.

We added a washed, faded but glowing effect to create the flashback scenes, we also added a tint of blue which gave it a weird, science fiction style completion to the scene which was a nod to out Sci-fi Superhuman genre. The music featured within the fight scene is very dramatic and intense which was used to create an atmosphere but to also convey that this was a key turn point and crucial, serious scene within the film, this will also keep the audience hooked during this scene.

Throughout we used a lot of and focus on close-ups of characters as it emphasizes their emotions and emotional state which brings the audience which helps them connect and feel sympathy for the characters. We also used a few long shots to establish the location/setting before the characters became the centre of the audiences attention as well as a tracking shot for the fight scene. We used that shot because we wanted to make the audience feel as if they were part of the action and involved which I think worked well with the use of hand held camera work along with the tracking shot because when we tracked the characters, the camera also shook which gave the sense that the audience were running along side the fight.
