Evaluation - Question 2

'How does your media product represent particular social groups?'

Our film features a young couple, Danni and Jarrod, both in their early 20's and this is what we wanted to represent in our film. To represent the rough age group of them, we decided on having both characters dressed in modern/fashionable clothing which symbolises that they take care in their appearance. We also subvert the stereotypes that all teenagers and young adults are chavs and anti-social because when they see Kian unconscious on the bench instead of leaving him they go over to see if he's ok, take him him to take care of him and then asks him questions because they're truthfully concerned about him which subverts the stereotype. Jarrod is the complete opposite to the male stereotype as instead of being a macho man he's presented as being kind and caring but also doing domestic work around the house such as; making cups of tea.

 With the character of Kian, we followed the basic gender stereotype of men being macho while at the same time showing that he's also a a modern man and not the basic rough and tough macho man we so commonly see within films. The macho aspect of his personality was show by how he heroically runs towards and fights frank who's just pulled out a gun on Danni and Jarrod, he does this without thinking for his safety which sticks with the macho hero stereotype. We also wanted to represent that Kian was also a modern man by having him dressed in fairly stylish and modern clothing instead of being dressed in ripped tops, vest tops and shorts which is usually associated with the stereotype of macho men.

We had our stereotype thug/criminal which was Frank, as with the stereotype most criminals are seen as dressed in rugged or chavy clothing as well as being aggressive and uncooperative so purely basing it off the stereotype we dressed Frank in a tracksuit to go with the idea of a chavy look and then we had him aggressively cut into Danni's  dialouge, cutting in by shouting 'Shut Up, I'm not talking to you!' all this follows the stereotypic representation of a criminal.
