Pre-Production Film Questionnaire

Before starting work on the production of our film, we decided to create a questionnaire which was handed out to five people at random, the participants answered our questions and also gave their response on the storyline/idea of the film with what could be changed to improve our film.

 

Question 1 - What is your age?

All five participants were aged between 16-18 as we handed the questionnaires out within college, this works well though because our film is aimed towards this age range as we think our film should have the age rating of 15.

 

Question 2 - What is your gender?

We got a fairly equal split of genders which allowed us to have a wider response to our film instead of being dominated by just one gender.

 

Question 3 - What is your occupation?

As all participants were asked within college it was easy to note that they we're all students but two responded with a different response, one worked as a retail assistant for New Look and the other was part of the staff at the Barnsley store of McDonalds.

 

Question 4 - How often do you watch films?

The participants who responded with student for the above question answered that they watched a few films per week whereas those people who responded with their jobs for the above question said they only watched a film once a week if they could. This shows how viewing of films is effected by whether people have jobs or not.

 

Question 5 - How do you usually watch films?

This was a landslide result as all responded with online streaming as their main source of viewing, some did go on to say that if it was a film they'd been waiting to see then they would go to the cinema but on average they usually view films via online streaming websites and apps.

 

Question 6 - What is your favourite genre?

We had a mix of results for this, two of our participants responded with Sci-fi while the others replied with Comedy, Romantic and Action as their favourite genres. This shows that out of five people, two of them prefer to watch a science fiction film which works perfectly with our aim as our genre is Sci-Fi Superhuman.

 

Question 7 - What did you think of our plot/storyline?

Most agreed that it was very interesting and that they would like to find out what happens next but two commented on how it was hard to understand and follow, that there wasn't enough background information to understand what was happening so this is something we could improve upon but most of the information and background to the characters are revealed as the full film develops.

 

Question 8 - What genre should our film be?

Most responded with either Thriller or Action based off the storyline as they associated the plot more with those genres. This isn't what we wanted as our film follows the Sci-fi Superhero/Superhuman genre so this is something we'd have to work on and improve to get our intended genre across.

 

Question 9 - What age rating should our film be?

With the violence and drug reference featured within the title and first three minutes all our participants agreed that our film should be aged 15 as some scenes might be unacceptable for younger audiences to view. This works with what we had in mind for our age rating as we had it rated at a 15 for the start.

 

Question 10 - What type of music would you expect in our film?

Similar to the answers for Question 8, they all responded with quite edgy music, action-packed and gritty to fit with the genre of Thriller or Action which is kind of what we wanted, we want to have some action music in our film but we also want to have some sci-fi type of music.

 

Question 11 - Would you watch our film? If no, then what could be change (add or remove) to make it more appealing?

All of our participants said they'd defiantly watch it but also suggested some improvements we could make such as setting up the characters more, giving them more background information and making our film appeal to a wider audience because at the moment it might only appeal to a very small, selected audience.
