Question 1 - In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
The plot of media project revolves around a young couple finding a mysterious man passed out in a park, taking him home to care for him, then being saved by him after a mugging, revealing he has superhuman ability's, all within the first 3 minutes. We decided to do this form of narrative and story to build tension in the first moments of the film, interesting the audience to the backgrounds of these characters, making the overall story more appealing to them. This was done by the different visions that Kian has at the beginning of the production, showing the Sci - Fi aspect of the project, as well as the superhuman element, which would interest people who are interested in movies such as 'Iron man' or 'Captain America', as they relate to the lead character. Our film follows a linear narrative, which presents the scenes and actions in chronological order, making the moments of the film make sense easier. We do break this once however, as the 'vision' sequence shows aspects from the future, changing the movement of scenes.
To present the idea of normal people, the characters, being pushed in to this strange new world, we presented a modern and realistic world at the beginning of the production. This was done through the clothing, props and locations seen, as all the cloths were quite modern and appropriate for the age of our characters, with the location being a normal house and public park. These different aspects of Mise - en - scene all contributed to contrasting the normal Sci - Fi genre, as the tone we wanted for our film was more of a realistic, mystery story, with elements of Sci - Fi
We used allot of fast pace editing to connote the fast action that goes on throughout the movie, helping to present the danger that is happening in that scene, in turn adding to the building suspense. This was added upon by the different close up shots we used, showing the emotions and reactions that our characters had to the different situations they went through, whether that be a simple conversation, or a dangerous situation. Tracking shots were also used on numerous occasions to present a continuous movement of a scene, such as the fight sequence, or the flash forward aspect, showing the tension once again rising throughout the shot. These fluid shots helped to give the audience a sense of danger and suspense, as the slightly shaking camera gives a feeling of realism, as if the audience is there with the characters, impacting them more.
