Editing and techniques commonly used within Sci-Fi films

Like any genre of film, Sci-Fi films follow the conventional editing and techniques that are so commonly used within Blockbuster movies. The main aim of a film is to keep the audience hooked throughout and interested in the film, this is achieved by the pace of the film which is a result of the editing choices, for example; fast pace editing in Gravity, especially in the Alternate Ending as its jumping from shot to shot to show the action taking place but to also build suspense in turn keeping the audience hook. Suspense and Tension can also be created using slow paced editing or long, slow continuous shots such as the opening sequence for Gravity, it may not be a long piece running for just under two minutes but the Tension and Suspense it built up by the pacing of the scene, slowing building up towards the climax of the scene.
